Renewing Patient Instructions

Log Into Your Account

Go to the ND Medical Marijuana Registration Portal: mmregistration.health.nd.gov and sign in with your existing username and password.

Start the Renewal Application

From your dashboard, select “Renewal Application.” Review your information and update anything that has changed, such as address, phone number, or email.

Upload Your North Dakota ID (if needed)

If your ID has expired or your address has changed, upload a new, clear image of the front of your ND driver’s license or ND state ID. Even if you type in the ID number, you must also upload the image if it is new.

Enter Your Healthcare Provider Information

Enter your provider’s first and last name and their work email exactly as given by CannaCare Docs. The system emails your provider and places your new Written Certification on their dashboard. Any errors here will delay your renewal.

Answer Program Questions

Confirm your ability to make your own medical decisions, indicate whether you will have a designated caregiver (optional, up to five allowed), and answer questions about veteran status or hospice enrollment. If enrolled in hospice, you will need to upload documentation and are encouraged to add a caregiver.

Sign the Medical Release of Information

This allows the program to verify your qualifying condition(s). Some providers may also ask you to sign their own release form.

Review and Submit

Scroll to the bottom of the application.

  • If you see a blue “Submit” button, your application is ready.

  • If it still says “Save”, go back and complete missing fields.

After submission, the program will wait for your provider’s Written Certification before moving forward.

Pay the Renewal Fee ($40)

  • Online: Pay by credit, debit, or e-check via the portal after submitting.

  • By Mail: Send check or money order payable to NDDHHS; MM Program.

    • Write your 10-digit application barcode on the check.

    • Mail to:
      NDDHHS, Medical Marijuana Program
      600 E Boulevard Ave, Dept 325
      Bismarck, ND 58505

The fee is non-refundable.

Processing Time

Renewal applications typically take 2–4 weeks to process after your completed application, payment, and provider certification are received. Delays can occur due to missing information, poor ID scans, or unpaid fees.
