New Patient Instructions
Apply for a License
On the Virginia DOH website, locate and click on the option for 'Apply for
a License' or 'Register.'
Create a Username and Password
Create a username and password for your account to log in. Follow the
prompts to complete the registration process.
Log In Using Your Newly Created Credentials
Log in using the username and password you just created.
Patient Registration
From the options provided, select 'Patient Registration.'
Fill Out the Initial Application Form
Ensure to choose 'patient' and 'medical cannabis' from the dropdown
menus.
Enter Your Certification Details Accurately
Input your certification details as provided by your physician.
Upload Required Documents
Upload a clear image of your state-issued ID and proof of residency.
Proceed to Payment
Pay the $50 registration fee using a valid payment method.
Review and Submit Your Application
Double-check all the information provided for accuracy, then submit your
application.
Await Response from the State
Wait for a response from the state, which typically arrives within 30
business days. Once approved, your medical cannabis card will be issued.

The state application fee is $50 and is non-refundable. The Virginia Department of Health Professions processes applications and issues a registry identification card after reviewing and approving the application and payment.
